Today was a very frustrating day! We went to the kitchen showroom to finalise the details on the new kitchen. After two and a half hours tweaking cupboard placement it was time to pick countertops. Sadly Jeff and I had both lost the will to live at least an hour before and so we both agreed on one - the best that can be said for it is that we didn't hate it. I'm not sure that either of us will love it when it's installed, but we were so done by then!
And at that point, just as we were about to pay, they went to check that all the cabinets we want were in stock and announced that they were not. So half my kitchen is being installed in April, the other half is on a slow boat from China, some of the cupboard doors are not even made yet and won't be in for four months at least. But for the inconvenience of having to look at my own plates for months on end, I got a free kitchen sink and hardware out of the deal. And it's hard to care too much while it's all theoretical - when it's in I may feel differently!
After the kitchen showroom (which is ages away!) we drove home to start work on the house, only to find that the stucco guy who was repairing stucco patches where we've worked (mainly around the front door) had nailed through the main water line.
We are not doing well! The drywallers broke a window. The plumber nicked the electrical line in the kitchen and blew a circuit. And now the stucco guy has made a hole in the main water line that we can't figure out how to fix.
The plan for today was to level the master bedroom. When we first looked at the house, there was an obvious ridge in the master bedroom floor. It wasn't until we got the carpets up and looked properly that we realised it's not an actual ridge; the whole floor drops about an inch from the ridge to the wall. So today Jeff was going to self-level the floor with concrete... but with no water, you can't mix concrete.
So we didn't get much done today at all. We did jack-hammer out the remaining pathway to the front door, which was totally worth it just for this moment!
