One of the highlights of a weekend at the cabin is a hike in the woods behind the house. Hike is not really the right word, but in that mountain setting walk feels less authentic than hike. Even though we're really just out on a walk!
The light and the scenery up on the hillside is always gorgeous, and lends itself to lots of pictures!
At some point on the trail, some crazy fool built a ladder into a tall pine tree. It goes up about twenty feet. On a mountain side, about forty five minutes away from the nearest hospital. The building of it strikes me as horribly unsafe, and the climbing of it is not much better! But everyone had to have a turn.
And this is how high he was...
There's only one picture of Kate on the tree ladder. Shortly after I took this picture she set off again up the tree and I think she was trying to actually get to the top. I was so busy shouting at her to stop that there wasn't time to take any more pictures!
Somebody was absolutely determined to do it by hisself. He could barely reach the first rung but didn't want any help.

We had a great weekend up in the real outdoors. We actually saw stars and breathed fresh air. It was awesome!
