Tomatoes

At the end of last summer's tomato season, Jeff ripped up all the remaining tomato vines and turned them over into the soil, as a result of which, two things have happened. One, we have really, really good soil. It was it's own little underground compost heap all winter. And two....

ta-da!

A self-perpetuating tomato patch!

About mid-February we started to see loads of little tomato plants growing from last year's seeds. I left them alone and five survived to the point that we just put cages over them and are hoping for the best. We had to move a couple to space them out better and they may or may not survive the move, but still... we have seven plants in the ground, only two of which we paid for. Brilliant.
