Kitchen progress... stalled

It feels like we are stalled on the kitchen. We are not quite... but the current project is to tile under the washer and dryer.

Did you know that before you can tile under the washer and dryer you have to completely redo all the plumbing in the walls behind them? So the walls got ripped apart. And all the pipes have changed. Before you can put the walls back up, you have to replace the thermostat and the doorbell, because those wires live in that wall too. And they have to be properly placed. To do this, you have to pull the washer and dryer out of place.

So, after you have bought a new thermostat and a new doorbell, then you can move on to tiling. Except, before you tile, you have to mud and texture the walls. And paint, if you're feeling ambitious. To do all this, you have to pull the washer and dryer out of place.

Once the walls are ready, then you have to do the ceiling. I'm told there's a reason that the ceiling has to be done before the tiling, but for the life of me I can't remember what it is. Anyway, to do it, you have to pull the washer and dryer out of place.

Once the ceiling is done, then you can tile the floor. Of course you have to pull the washer and dryer out of place for that too.

Then, once the tile is laid and has not been walked on for 48 hours, you can grout the tile, and finally put the washer and dryer back in place.

We are currently on step two of this multi-step nightmare. And given that the dryer is popping in and out of it's place on a daily basis, of course it can't be connected. Which means it can't be used.

This reminds me of the very first thing we did when we bought this house. There was a really ugly chandelier in the stairwell. The very first thing we did was to buy a nice new chandelier to replace it. One thing led to another, as these things always do, and six months later, after we had floored the attic, put in an attic ladder, painted the walls, and rewired the upstairs electricity we finally hung the new chandelier.

I'm just hoping the dryer won't be out of commission for six months!
