Field trip!

This week I got to go on a field trip! For years I have said I would volunteer in school with the youngest... so on Nicholas' first day at school I signed up to go work in the classroom once a week. Then not enough parents signed up, so I said I'd cover Friday that week too, and what his teacher heard was I wanted to come in on Monday and Friday for the rest of the year.... and rather than disappoint her I have done just that.

The payoff came this week when I got to go on a field trip to the farm with Nicholas and his class! Never mind that we have been to that farm loads of times, we got to ride a school bus!! It was the height of excitement for these kindergarteners who are not usually allowed on the bus.

Riding the bus

Nicholas had a great time... he got up close to a cow, touched a pig, petted baby chicks, and planted radish seeds.

These are Nicholas' buddies. They all sit on the same table at school. These kids have made me laugh all year long - one tells me stories about his girlfriend and the secret lab in his basement; one calls Nicholas a fathead occasionally, usually after Nicholas has told him to get lost and stop bugging him; and one is a little sweetheart who took months and months to start talking at school.

It's been a joy to spend two mornings a week hanging out with them!
