It was Kate's birthday a couple of weeks ago. Somehow I didn't do this last year, so here are ten, whoops, eleven years of Kate.
Kate is so easy to buy presents for. She writes lists, and then at the bottom of the list it says things like 'whatever you buy me I will be pleased with' and it's true. One of the big wins this year was a beanie - I said we're not buying her a beanie in the summer, and Jeff bought her a beanie anyway and she wore it every day for a week.
Kate is our social butterfly. Everyone is her friend. Every day is happy (except when she's pouting. She can switch between the two fairly fast). Early on in the pandemic she co-opted my phone, put herself on a messenger app, and has an ongoing group chat with her friends from church. She sets up zoom calls for herself with friends from school. She has stayed connected with the outside world!
She's rocking online school. Sometimes she gets up early, works from about 7:30 and is all done with school stuff by about the time the others get out of bed! But even when she's not working ahead, she's all organized with her own schedule of what has to be done every day to be finished by the due date.
She loves to cook. She loves to cook so much that she actually likes to help with dinner! Which is a first. She can be trusted to make chocolate chip cookies by herself. We're still working on leaving the kitchen in a state fit for the next use...
She got several pairs of shorts for her birthday - which is a big deal! Kate gets cold very easily, so she absolutely refuses to wear shorts to school because of the air conditioning in the classroom. Over time, this has meant that she has only one or two pairs of shorts in her wardrobe, because she lives in jeans all year. Jeans and a hoodie, everywhere! But given that she's not at school any more and we're not running the air yet, she's actually wearing shorts now! Still with a hoodie, though.
Happy Birthday to Kate!
