First day of school!

Yesterday was the first day of school for Ellie and the littles. Ellie and Kate were super excited, ready to go, had already picked out their outfits and were just buzzing about going back.

Ellie - 6th grade
Kate - 2nd grade

Nicholas woke up moany and progressed to moaning and sitting in a heap all over the house. He opened his drawer and then sat in front of it claiming not to be able to find a single pair of socks - I pulled out three pairs in one hand. He sat in a heap on the stairs claiming that there were no shorts in his drawer - yes, there were. He sat in a heap in the front room claiming that he couldn't find his shoes. He got whinier and whinier as the morning progressed and then it was time for back to school pictures, which prompted a full on meltdown. He could not and was not going to smile for the camera!

We had to get tickle baby involved, and even that did not work.

After we were done with pictures Adam (who isn't starting school until next week) sat with Nicholas and talked to him. Turns out Nicholas was suffering from first day nerves - he told Adam that he didn't want to sit on a new table, and he was not liking the thought of being in a class with new kids either.

His malaise lasted until he lined up at school. He saw friends from last year in the line. He knew exactly where to put his backpack, and he marched into that room like he owned it. He was totally thrilled to find his name tag by himself and not bothered at all by the fact that it was on a different table. Five minutes in it was clear that he was going to have a great day.

And I think that he did!
